In September of 2001, ten year old Rashan had just beat cancer that had effected his brain and spine. During Rashan’s remission of cancer the twin towers were struck in the 9/11 terrorist attack. Rashan knew that the children affected by events that took place on 9/11 were hurting far more than he was and he wanted to help.

Rashan grew up having both of his parents around, to help and support him through all of his cancer treatments. Reshan wanted to help the families and children who lost loved ones on that fateful day, children who may have lost a parent.

So, with Rashan’s father’s old button press and a genius idea, he went to work. Rashan hand made over 20,000 custom buttons that read ‘Proud To Be An American’ and sold them at local stores. Rashan eventually sold over $250,000 worth of buttons and donated all of the money to the New York – World Trade Center Relief Fund.

Such an amazing young man with a heart larger than life.

‘The biggest reward comes from within’ – Rashan
