A newly designated species of catfish has been named after it’s resemblance to Greedo, the bounty hunter who appears in the original Star Wars film. While Greedo the alien was shot in the Cantina by Han Solo, Greedo the catfish was first discovered in 1998 along the Gurupi River in Brazil.
Scientists later determined that what is scientifically now calledPeckoltia greedoi was different enough from other types of catfish that it was its own species in need of a new name. Biological Sciences Professor Jonathan Armbruster, one of the scientists who helped coin the Star Wars themed name says “I think it was the whole package that evoked Greedo, but particularly the eyes and the underslung mouth.”
