This is so incredibly upsetting and sad that we live in a world where children and young adults feel it is truly okay to hurt someone so bad, that the person being bullied feels they have no way out other than to take their own life.
Every single person that was involved in bullying this young woman should be held accountable. This is a parenting issue, a personal issue and a media issue.
Every day we see more and more stories similar to the one below. Thousands upon thousands of videos pop up daily of young adolescence hurting one another, physically and emotionally and seemingly enjoying themselves doing so. It’s sick.
On Tuesday, eighteen year old Brandy Vela, from Texas City sent a text message to her sister Jackie saying, “I love you so much, please remember that, and I’m sorry for everything.”
It was at that point when her sister and parents rushed to Brandy’s bedroom. When they found her, she was holding a gun to her chest.
Brandy’s family begged her not to pull the trigger, but Brandy did. She took her own life, in front of those who loved her most.
Jackie told CNN the cyberbullying against her sister escalated in April, “people would make up fake Facebook accounts and they would message her and she wouldn’t respond and they would still come at her.”
The 18-year-old changed her phone number and reported the bullying to police.
Her sister said authorities were unable to help.
“They couldn’t do anything because [the suspects] used an app and it wasn’t traceable and they couldn’t do something until something happened, like they fight,” Jackie told CNN.
Brandy’s family was able to donate her organs to help people in need, adding they hope to meet the person who receives her “beautiful eyes.”
It truly pains me to read such stories as this. This young woman had her entire life ahead of her and to be beat down by your peers is truly a disgrace. One can only hope that the individual’s who bullied Brandy will someday realize how horrific their actions were and how much damage they have caused.
