A movement is happening in Maine and it’s fueled by kindness.

Public spaces in Portland and other Maine cities have winter hats strewn about them with a small yellow sign that reads: “I am not lost. If you are stuck out in the cold, take me to keep warm.”

Portland’s Monument Square crossroads is a particularly popular spot for free hats. They line a fence that surrounds a Civil War monument in the center of the square.

Tags can be found without hats, which goes to show that the hats are indeed being used by those in need.

The hats are handmade as well as store bought.

If you remember, last winter as same movement took place involving winter coats.

Way to go Mainers!
