As the sun shines brighter, the temperature starts to soar and the days get longer, we want to spend as much time in our gardens as possible. But in order to do this we need it to be bright and welcoming.

The best way to do this is by adding pops of color across the space. Here are a few ways to do it:

Choose colorful flowers

When choosing your flowers, pick carefully. You will want a variety of shapes and sizes in a range of colors and shades. Begonias, like these ones from Bakker, are a great way to add a pop of color to your garden because this one flower is perfect for borders as well as hanging baskets and pots – plus it comes in a wide variety of bold colors.

Lift the color off the ground

When plotting out which flowers you are going to have in the garden make sure you think outside of the borders. Of course, you want to fill them with pretty, bright petals but you need to look higher as well. It is easy to do this by using hanging baskets, trellis, pergolas and arches.

Invest in some new pots

Before you start planting your new colorful flowers into your faded, chipped old terracotta pots, why not invest in some new ones? Look for bright colors and bold patterns – something a little different from the typical garden pot – that will stand out.

Give it a lick of paint

Has the original color of your shed faded over the years? Is the paint on your fences peeling? Has the bird table seen better days? Then use this summer to not only re-paint them but paint them a brighter color. Forget brown and think blues, pinks, greens – whatever you fancy. Remember, if you get bored of the color or just fancy a change you can always paint over it.

Colorful garden accessories

Don’t forget the accessories when it comes to color in the garden – this is one of the easiest ways to add color in. This might include brightly colored cushions, mirrors to reflect the beautiful flowers and double the amount of color you get from them, patterned ornaments, and colorful bird feeders.

Grow your own fruit and veggies!

A vegetable patch filled with tomatoes, carrots, peppers, strawberries, raspberries and so on will provide you with the most colorful corner filled with oranges, reds, greens, and much more. Not only this, you will save on the weekly shopping bill and enable you to get your 5-a-day quota by simply stepping out of your back door.

Buy brightly colored furniture

If you are buying new furniture for your garden, then invest in some colorful pieces. You could create a color scheme or mix and match. Either keep it subtle with pastels or go bold with bright colors.

It is easy to brighten up to your garden – start thinking about it now and your garden will explode with color just in time for summer.
