There is no denying that if Kelly Clarkson didn’t win American Idol, her life would be very, very different.
When Clarkson took first place in the first American Idol competition, her career sky rocketed and she became one of the most famous singer son the planet! However, Clarkson didn’t want to win American Idol at all! She was actually hoping for a second place finish.
Recently Clarkson gave an interview where she outlined her reasoning behind was hoping for a second place finish in the contest.
Just before her and her competitor, Justin Guarini were set to walk on the American Idol stage to find out who was taking first place…producers informed the pair that whoever wins the show will be contractually obligated to appear in a movie. Clarkson didn’t want to be in a movie at all, but Justin did.
“I do remember Justin [Guarini] and I having the conversation before, and I was like, ‘I don’t want to win, I don’t want to win’, because we found out we had to do a movie,” Clarkson told EW. “He really wanted to do a movie. And I really didn’t want to do a movie.”
“I was like, ‘It would be really super cool if I got second and you got first, because the winner has to do the movie and the second one doesn’t’,” Clarkson recalled.
The movie she’s referring to, of course, is From Justin To Kelly.
“I got to showcase all these different sides of me,” she said. “Artists never get the opportunity to do that the first time out the gate.”
