Loofahs may feel good and they even may clean your body nicely…however…they are a breeding ground for nasty bacteria! Ever since I read about how nasty loofahs are…whenever I see one I cringe!

The nylon mesh shower puffs exfoliate just fine as they take off layer after layer of dead skin cells.

That creates the perfect breeding ground for all sorts of gross (and potentially damaging) bacteria. The dead skin cells get caught within the tiny folds of the mesh.

If you want a good scrubbing tool, one that won’t hold in nasty bacteria, try an all-natural vegetable loofah. You can pick one up from any good beauty supply shop.

Many of these things are actually the dried-out insides of a certain type of gourd!

If you’re really adventurous, you can even grow and dry your own. Imagine…an infinite supply of free bath accessories!

The natural loofah’s trap dead skin cells too, but their fibers are much more porous.

Porous fibers makes them easier to rinse clean after each use. However, if they start to smell funky…get rid of them and start using a fresh one!

Natural sea sponges make a good replacement for shower puffs, too.

Again, they can still trap dead skin cells, but they’re also packed with enzymes that help keep them clean. In a pinch, you can even microwave them to kill off whatever’s living in those nooks and crannies.

On the other hand, what’s wrong with a good old wash cloth?

Wash cloths are more durable than any loofah and they’re easy to throw into the wash.
