One man hit the jean-jackpot after opening an old trunk that belonged to his great-grandfather.

Jock Taylor discovered a pair of vintage Levi jeans, dating back to 1893 in an old family trunk. The jeans belonged to Taylor’s great-grandfather, Solomon Warner.

Vintage Levi’s can be worth a lot of money and when you have a pair of unworn jeans from the 19th-century…you have hit the jackpot!

Levi’s began covering its rivets with denim in 1937 but the rivets on Warner’s jeans are exposed. Suspender buttons show they were older than 1922, which was the year belt loops were introduced. And a single back pocket meant the jeans went back pre-1901, when Levi’s introduced a second pocket.

The Levi company has offered Taylor $50,000 for the jeans…but he passed on the offer, in hopes that he can fetch double that amount.

Most jean collectors actually want to wear the jeans they purchase…and the pants that Taylor found…are a rather large size, which can affect value.

The jeans are a size 44” waist, 37” leg.
