Clams are an amazing creature! They are not only tasty to eat, but they have the ability to produce gorgeous little gems…in the way of pearls!
Oysters typically produce pearls, but clams and mussels have the ability to do so as well. Pearls are the by-product of a biological process that occurs when an irritant or a foreign substance such as a food particle, enters an oyster’s shell. Contrary to popular belief, the irritant is hardly ever a grain of sand.
Watch as this woman opens up a massive clam only find not one pearl…but over a dozen! This is one lucky lady!
