Worried their daughter would start to feel too ‘different’ because she had a large birth mark, two parents decided to get the same marks tattooed on themselves so she wouldn’t feel alone.

18-month-old Honey-Rae Phillips was born with a mark that has grown with her, now covering half of the right hand side of her body. It was caused by medical difficulties she experienced shortly after birth.

They started to become concerned about how their child would be treated after they heard a number of adults talk about her under their breath while out and about. They have three other children but strangers would stare at Honey’s markings on her legs almost constantly. It apparently led to her not wanting to wear shorts in public.

“I knew if adults could be that insensitive, then kids at school would also be unintentionally mean.” Tanya Phillips

So they took a page out of their own book of awesome parenting. In order to ensure their daughter wouldn’t feel like there was anything wrong with her because of the birthmark, they got the #tattoos.

Tanya and Adam wanted it to serve as a reminder they love her no matter what. They got it as each other’s birthday presents and the inking has truly become priceless for them. It’s safe to say Honey-Rae likes it too.

“It was incredibly painful, especially as I had a flower to cover some old star tattoos, but it was worth every second of the pain. When the swelling went down, I showed Honey-Rae, and she gently touched it and smiled as she said ‘Match,’ pointing to her own leg.” Tanya Phillips
