Most everyone on the planet has had fearful thoughts about being involved in an plane crash. There is no doubt the folks on Western Airlines Flight 2605 had felt the exact same way when it crashed while approaching Mexico City in 1979.

The crash occurred after the pilots made a mistake and landed the plane on a runway that was closed for maintenance. Even more tragic is that the pilots realized their mistake in the final moments before impact.

Sadly, 72 of the 88 people on board, plus 1 person on the ground, were killed, making this crash the third deadliest crash to happen on Mexican soil.

Warning : this is an actual voice recording of the pilots seconds before they crashed. Some may find it hard to listen to.
