While other kids are playing video games, one kid was building her own ‘tiny home‘ for just $10!

Using materials from her father’s workshop, 5th grader Callie Hilton designed her off-grid tiny home. Complete with a tin shed roof, panel from an old CRT TV, wood scraps, and corrugated plastic.

A five-volt solar panel mounted to the outside of the structure powers a single lightbulb. She also gave the home a rainwater catchment system, composting toilet, and solar-heated oven. A pair of handles affixed to the facade on one end of the home allows the fifth grader to pick up her 25-pound abode and move it around.

Dubbed ‘Callie’s Coop’, the tiny house was built for a school project. Another kid in Callie’s class was going to build a solar powered oven…and Callie thought she would take that idea a few steps further and build an entire self sustaining home!

This girl rocks!
