If you know cars, a Lamborghini Aventador is going to set you back a fair bit of money. As of March, there had only been 5,000 of these Italian V12 supercars built, but with a base price of $393,000, they’re not going to move a whole lot of units. Still, you get what you pay for: This bad boy can go from 0-60 mph in just 2.9 seconds, allowing it to cover a quarter mile in only 10.5 seconds.
When you look at those numbers, one can only suspect that they were achieved on the Autobahn, not a narrow London street, but that didn’t stop this Brit from trying his luck, a decision he certainly regrets now.
The driver had decided to press the accelerator as he took off at an intersection on Sloane Street, Chelsea, one of London’s most fashionable and affluent neighborhoods.
Just after the Lamborghini launched, a Mazda pulled out in front of it. The Aventador clipped the Mazda, becoming airborne at one point, causing the driver to lose control and hit a parked BMW before coming to a halt.
The whole event was filmed by a stunned onlooker, Thomas Melsens. “I heard the Lamborghini coming so I started recording but this was the absolute last thing I ever imagined I would end up witnessing.”
Nobody was injured in the crash and the driver more than likely has the insurance to cover himself, but I think he’ll probably be a little more careful from now on.
