Cows & piglets have to get to market somehow. And what better way to get them there than with your very own slaughterhouse truck?
Sure, it’s a toy. But the idea of selling animal slaughter as the stuff of child’s play isn’t sitting well with animal welfare groups. Now, many are calling on Walmart to stop selling the toy vehicle in an online petition.
“As a trucker, seeing these in real life is no treat,” wrote Susan Schindler of New Jersey, one of more than 4,000 people who signed the petition. “The reality is violence. Do not support desensitization of children.”
With around 11,500 stores worldwide, Walmart certainly wields some influence over what kids will be wanting this holiday season.
“A slaughter truck shouldn’t be endorsed as a toy,” wrote Brittany Sawyer of Virginia on the petition. “It isn’t fun, it isn’t neat, it isn’t something I would want my kids to enjoy playing with.”
The company has yet to respond to a request for comment.
What better way to make that learning experience fun than with a mostly plastic slaughterhouse truck from Walmart?
