Today marks the 14-year anniversary of the worst terror attack to ever hit American soil. Countless lives lost and A Nation stood still along side the rest of the World.
I am no exception to the rest of the citizens in the United States, I will never forget that day. That morning imparticular is permanently etched into my memory and will surely remain for the remainder of my life.
It was normal morning in Maine that day, the sun was shining and the birds were singing. Despite the beauty around me, my day started of rather somber as my first round of business that day was to sadly put our family dog of 13 years down to rest.
I can remember that feeling as I left the Veterinarian’s office, a long time friend and family member lost. My sadness however, was minor in comparison to what others were about to endure.
I got home around 8:30, poured a cup of coffee and turned on the news. Roughly ten minutes later the first plane crashed into the World Trade Center. From that moment on I watched all the events of 9/11 unfold in real time. To this day I have never duplicated those feelings I had as I watched those planes crash into one of our Nation’s staple buildings. The lives lost and the families tied to them were in my thoughts constantly that day.
We all have a story and know where we were when the events on that horrific day unfolded. Stories from people who were at Ground Zero, who lived nearby, who helped save fellow citizens. Stories from people around the globe and across the country. Each and every one of those stories helps us remember. Remember that we must never endure another attack on American soil like that again. Remember that for one day, that one day in history, September 11, 2001 our country came together as one. There were no riots, there was no extreme violence, there was no race. Just humans helping humans.
