In addition to the use of a warm compress, you can also massage the affected area of the hickey. Massages can help alleviate the pain and will also stimulate blood circulation. Gently massaging the hickey, a couple of minutes per day will help in the healing process and may help the hickey to fade in a shorter amount of time. A gentle touch is necessary, since if you apply too much pressure, there is a chance that the bruise may actually get worse.
One trick to ensure that the massage is gentle, would be to use the toothbrush method. The idea would be to use a toothbrush with extra-soft bristles, then gently move the brush over and around your hickey to stimulate blood circulation. Just repeat the process for five to ten minutes at a time. Don’t press too hard, since applying too much pressure on the hickey can make it worse. A brand-new toothbrush would be best, since the bristles would still be stiff, but soft to the touch. If none if available, a used clean one would suffice in a pinch. Feel free to repeat the toothbrush massage method everyday until the hickey fades.
