You’d probably want to ride in a New York cab at least once because they’re an integral part of the city’s lifestyle. Unlike in other places, you don’t need to tell a NY cab driver where you’re headed before you get inside the car. If you do, be prepared to get rejected sometimes. Cab drivers may refuse to go to your destination for whatever reason. But they cannot refuse you once you board their cab. They may suggest a different route if they feel it would be less of a hassle due to traffic or some other reason, and unless you know exactly the route you want to take, let them do the driving. Cab drivers would know how to get from point A to point B and would be familiar with other routes in case roads are blocked by heavy traffic or an accident. You don’t have to worry about negotiating on a price either because the taxis are metered.
