Do Not Steal Someone Else’s Cab

What you see on TV or in the movies about people in New York rudely stealing cabs from other would-be passengers is not completely true. While there are some rude elements, most will not do such a thing. Regardless of the growing selection of taxi apps and the wide availability of Uber, many New Yorkers still take the yellow taxi. If they hailed the cab, it’s common courtesy and human decency to let them take it. Even if you’re late for a tour or a Broadway show, do not just grab the door of someone else’s cab and hop in. You don’t want to engage in verbal warfare with a New Yorker. Most New Yorkers are in a rush, and you don’t want to give them a reason to unleash their famed rudeness on you. Wait your turn for a cab, it’s not a survival thing.
