Here are some interesting facts about the World’s Oceans!

Oceans cover over 70% of the Earth’s surface and are filled with mysteries. Here are five surprising facts about the oceans you might not know!

1. Oceans contain 99% of Earth’s living space.
The oceans are home to the majority of Earth’s biodiversity, with 99% of the planet’s living space found underwater. From the deepest trenches to vibrant coral reefs, marine life is abundant and diverse.

2. The Pacific Ocean is the largest ocean in the world.
The Pacific Ocean spans more than 63 million square miles, making it larger than all the landmasses combined. It’s so vast that it covers more area than the entire moon!

3. The deepest part of the ocean is the Mariana Trench.
Located in the Pacific Ocean, the Mariana Trench plunges over 36,000 feet deep—about seven miles. This is deeper than Mount Everest is tall!

4. Oceans produce over half of the world’s oxygen.
Marine plants, particularly phytoplankton, absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen through photosynthesis. In fact, the oceans are responsible for about 50-80% of the oxygen we breathe.

5. There’s a ‘plastic continent’ floating in the Pacific.
The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is an area where plastic waste has accumulated, creating a floating “continent” of trash that is twice the size of Texas. This environmental crisis highlights the need for global conservation efforts.
