Here are some interesting facts about OUR EARS!
Our ears are pretty amazing, but we often take them for granted. Did you know that they do way more than just let us hear? Check out these five fun facts about your ears that might just surprise you!
1. Your Ears Keep Growing
Unlike most parts of your body, your ears never stop growing! They grow at a slow rate, especially after you’re done growing taller. So, if you think your ears look bigger as you age, it’s not your imagination.
2. Earwax Is Actually Helpful
Earwax gets a bad rap, but it’s there to protect your ears! It traps dirt, dust, and even bacteria from getting into your ear canal. Plus, it has natural antibacterial properties, keeping your ears healthy.
3. You Can Hear from Birth
Babies can hear even before they’re born! The inner ear begins functioning around 25 weeks of pregnancy, which is why newborns can recognize their mother’s voice the moment they’re born.
4. You Have Two Ears for a Reason
Having two ears helps us pinpoint the direction of sounds. This nifty system, called “binaural hearing,” allows us to determine where a sound is coming from based on the slight difference in time it takes for sound to reach each ear.
5. Your Ears Can “See”
Not literally, of course! But your ears can help you “see” in a way. Your inner ear is responsible for balance, so when you’re spinning or moving around, your ears keep you upright, just like a GPS!
So, next time you listen to music or catch up with a friend, remember: your ears are doing a whole lot more than you think!
