Miley was once someone’s companion, but for unknown reasons, her guardian(s) abandoned her.

Sadly, this is an all to common practice by animal owners. Luckily for those abandoned animals — and humanity — there are some incredible people and organizations that rescue, care for and rehabilitate abandoned animals like Miley.

Eldad Hager, co-founder of Santa Monica, Cali. rescue group Hope for Paws, came to pick up Miley from her makeshift “home” — a trash pile in a vacant Los Angeles lot. The group received a tip from a local resident who reported that Miley had been living there and fighting to survive for several months.

When Hager arrived at the scene, he was stunned at what he saw. He told The Huffington Post that the place looked as if it had been “struck by a tsunami.”

Miley’s condition was just as bad. Hager stated that her physical deterioration was “definitely one of the worse cases” he had ever seen.

After a few hours of comforting Miley, Hager finally gained her trust and was able to drive her to Los Angeles’ Veterinary Care Center for immediate treatment. Once there, vets discovered she suffered from mange, parasites, bacterial infections and malnutrition. Amazingly, even with these painful conditions, she still managed to make it through each day living at the trash heap. Clearly Miley is a fighter and wasn’t about to give up on life.

This entire situation with Miley happened a few years back, however it is very important to shed light on the fact that this is not a one time occurrence. The abandonment of animals is something that we often hear about in the news and throughout social media, and those are just a tiny fraction of the vast amount of animal abandonment and animal abuse that takes place.

After all the care and rehabilitation that Miley received, this is her amazing transformation!
