A moose taking a stroll down a sidewalk in the Colorado Rockies town of Breckenridge didn’t want to be bothered.

Police reminded people not to bother wildlife, after the video of a woman attempting to ‘pet’ the moose, was posted online.

“Harassing wildlife is a misdemeanor and you will receive a ticket,” police said.

Authorities said snowfall can lead wildlife to go to where their food is more accessible, possibly making them more prevalent in town.

In the video, people can be heard shouting at an individual to leave the animal alone. When the person reaches out to touch the moose, it raised itself on its hind legs, extending its front legs in the air.

Breckenridge police said Friday their officers have identified the person and will share details with Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials.

“Please respect your own safety as well as our wildlife,” police said. “These animals can be very dangerous when provoked.”
