When this happened, the machine was in a “stand alone” mode. It wasn’t his problem. The mistake was in the system. The customer wouldn’t be able to access the balance but would be able to transfer money up to the daily limit. This was the bank’s way of making it convenient for their customers, and when it was back online, it would put the debit against the customer’s account.
