Super Healthy Kids

Finding the best multivitamins for your little ones can be difficult. Busy parents who can’t always prepare food from scratch may want to give their kids a daily supplement of some kind.

It’s understandable. After all, parents never stop worrying about the health of their children!

Children’s vitamins may look confusing, but with a little extra information, you can decide on the best vitamins to give your children and have a better understanding of what each vitamin does.

Here’s what you should know when choosing the best multivitamins for your kids:

How do I know if my child needs vitamins?

While it’s not always necessary for a healthy child to take vitamins, it can be difficult getting certain children to take in the nutrients they need to grow.

If your child is a fussy eater, it’s important to talk to a pediatrician about giving your child multivitamins to keep them strong, safe, and healthy!

Children’s Vitamins

Vitamin A can be found in milk, cheese, eggs, and carrots. It aides a child’s growth and tissue repair, as well as giving them good healthy skin!

The variations of Vitamin B are B2, B3, B6, and B12. Don’t be alarmed by the volume, these kid-friendly vitamins are found mainly in chicken, beans, dairy, nuts, and fish. They help the metabolism and circulatory systems.

Calcium is in any milk, cheese, tofu, or yogurt product. It gives your little one strong bones.

Iron can be found in most red meats and in pork, spinach, and beans. Iron develops muscles and promotes healthy red blood cells.

Fussy Eaters

Children who eat a varied and well-balanced diet may not need multivitamins, but fussy eaters or kids who consume a lot of processed foods may be low on essential nutrients that their body needs.

If your child is on a plant-based or dairy-free diet they may be low on calcium, vitamin D and B12, and iron.

Of course, it’s possible to have a perfectly healthy diet without consuming animal products, as long as they’re ingesting a lot of plant-based food full of good healthy vitamins!

Safety First!

Multivitamins that are aimed at children must be kept in a locked cupboard, out of reach for curious young hands!

Gummy vitamins, particularly ones with cartoon characters on the packaging, can be confused for candy. So be sure to keep your children’s vitamins high up and out of sight. Vitamin toxicity is no joke, so when it comes to kids’ vitamins, it’s safety first.

If you suspect that your child has eaten a large number of gummy vitamins, be sure to contact your healthcare provider immediately.

Too Much of a Good Thing

When choosing your multivitamins, be sure to read the back of the bottle and check if it contains 100% of your child’s daily vitamin intake.

Age groups will vary, but as a general rule, if the bottle contains more than 100% of the recommended daily intake, give your child half of the stated dose instead of the full one.

For peace of mind, good growth, and overall health, children need a little bit of every amount of the vitamins mentioned above. Of course, ages will vary, but like any parent, they’ll always be our little ones, regardless of age!

It’s a busy world, and taking some time to implement these steps and discuss them with your pediatrician will make all the difference to your child’s overall health.
