The Boiling Lake Of Dominica

Elvis Adventure Tours

The name alone will tell you that it is unsafe for swimming. The Boiling Lake is on the island of Dominica. It is a flooded fumarole, located about 10 km from Dominica’s capital, Roseau, and is the second largest hot lake in the world. It is a World Heritage site, something visitors should go and see, but beware. The lake is a cauldron of bubbling greyish-blue water usually enveloped by a cloud of vapor. The water is so hot that you could boil an egg in less than 10 seconds, just imagine what it can do to you. In fact, the cardinal rule set by locals, is that tourists must go with a guide who knows the place really well. There is a trail, and you should keep to it and not stray from it. And, it is about a 3-hour walk each way, so those who tire easily should not bother going.
