Moving to a new property, regardless of what it is, is daunting and at time exhausting. I should know, I just moved into a new property. However, it is not only the move that tires you. Decorating will eventually weigh on you. The prospect of doing so may be exciting in the beginning. It comes to a point though that it becomes too much.

When you move to your new rental apartment in Brussels, you might want to consider minimalist décor.

Minimalist, from the name itself, is a style that was inspired by an art movement back in the 1920s. In essence, it is putting as little décor as you can ensure that functionality is put at the forefront. This has been a recent movement in interior design that many prefer mainly because they do not have to do much.

If this is something that you are interested in, this is how you get a minimalist interior going inside your home.

SIMPLE BUT FUNCTIONAL

This is the core principles that minimalist décor lives by. You let every furniture and every décor serve a purpose. Get down to the bare necessities of the place. As interior designers put it, “Do more with less.”

SHAPES

Minimalism almost comes down to two shapes – squares and rectangles. A play between these two will grant you a minimalist style that brings all aspects to come together.

In addition, you can add lines such as horizontals, verticals, curves, and zigzags to gives life to the room. However, designers even consider zigzags and curves adventurous when it comes to the minimalist approach.

What these basic shapes and lines do is bring a room together into one coherent identity. Also, this gives you the flexibility to bring in a concept into your room, and it could be anything. Due to its simplicity, it could accommodate anything.

FLOW

The flow that minimalism aims for is fluid but never boring. It is making sure that no element stands out from the others.

However, when you have an apartment for rent in Brussels, or in any other city, in particular, whimsical architecture or décor cannot be avoided. Those were the ways before minimalism became mainstream. So, it is your job to put installations that seemingly blends with everything else. Neutral colors and shapes will help.

Again, fluid, but never boring.

COLOR

Speaking of color, minimalist décor always strays towards neutral colors such as white, beige, and grey. However, this does not mean you are not allowed to venture into other hues. It only means that you have to use their most basic shade.

Designers also try to contain them in areas where they do not necessarily stand out. Some would call it contained; where it is not immediately exposed.

FLOORING

Pick materials that are not too cozy, but not too cold.  Materials such as glass, concrete, wood, or steel, are some of the more popular options among minimalists. If you are truly adamant in adding warmth to your floor, a simply looking carpet in a monotone color will do the trick.

When moving into an apartment for rent in Brussels, to go flamboyant and overboard with your décor is tempting. Finally having a space to yourself does that. However, if you want to save money and still have that fresh new look to a fresh new room, opt for minimalist décor because simple does not always mean outdated.
