Fatigue refers to a general feeling of tiredness or lack of energy. Chronic fatigue is a constant feeling of exhaustion or an overwhelming tiredness that does not improve with rest or sleep. Fatigue is a common symptom that may be present in all stages of rheumatoid arthritis, particularly when you have active inflammation in the joints. Chronic fatigue in RA may be caused by different factors, such as your body’s response to inflammation and flare-ups, side-effects of medications, poor diet, poor sleeping patterns, anemia, a lack of exercise, stress, and depression.
Chronic fatigue from RA that results in lack of energy and motivation may adversely affect your emotions, mood, attentiveness, creativity, happiness, productivity, everyday activities, occupation, and relationships with people. Fatigue due to RA may also be associated with other symptoms, such as poor appetite and weight loss, although you may feel unusually tired well before the onset of other signs and symptoms.
