76. World’s Most Expensive Musical Instrument Sold at Auction – nearly $16 Million
Instruments have long held a special place in people’s hearts for hundreds of years, but this particular Stradivarius violin is on a whole other level of special. It was built back in 1721, but despite being transferred from one hand to another in a number of buys, legend has it that it was hardly ever played. Owned by Lady Blunt back in what was considered the golden era, the violin has managed to remain in almost pristine condition, despite having survived for almost three centuries. It was sold at a 2011 auction in London for $15,875,800, reportedly also being the only one of two original Stradivarius violins of their kind.
