91. World’s Most Expensive Painting Sold via Private Sale – $300 Million

This painting entitled Nafea Faa Ipoipo, which means “When Will You Marry?” was created by the incredible French post-impressionist Paul Gaugin back in 1892. It was originally kept in the Kunstmuseum in Basel, Switzerland for almost half a century before it was sold via private sale by the family of Rudolf Staechelin to an undisclosed buyer who willingly bought it for $300 million in 2015. You can see it hanging at the Fondation Beyeler, Riehen in Switzerland.
