This has to be the prettiest use for an old tire ever in the history of tires. This DIY rope ottoman makes for the perfect resting spot for your sunroom, patio or summer get-together. Literally all you need is rope, a tire, a few simple tools and time.

Materials

  • An old tire (check your local junkyard or auto shop if you don’t have one lying around!)
  • Sisal rope (about 150′ of 3/8″ thick rope, or 100′ of 1″ thick rope)
  • 50′ of 3/8″ nylon rope
  • Hot glue gun & glue sticks
  • Scissors
  • Sealer & paintbrush (optional)

Directions

Step One : Wrap the tire around with nylon rope, so that the rope criss crosses in every direction and you form a nice, taut cover for the open sides of the tire. Tie the rope to itself to hold tightly in place.

Step Two : Beginning at the edge of one side of the tire, wrap the sisal rope around the tire and hot glue to the nylon rope as you go. Keep wrapping until the entire sides of the tire are covered.

Step Three : Continue wrapping when you reach the top of the tire, forming concentric circles across the nylon rope base. You’ll need to glue the sisal rope to itself as well as to the nylon rope as you go. When you reach the center of the top of the tire, trim the excess rope and glue the end in place.

Step Four : You can paint the rope with a light coat of sealer if you’re planning on keeping your ottoman outside.
