They’re basically poopsicles.

When you are a kid, it’s hard to contain yourself when you see a freshly fallen icicle – you just want to eat it! It’s cold, seems refreshing and it’s just sort of cool — however — they are disgusting.

A meteorologist in Iowa recently came across a TikTok video about eating icicles and she has a few things to say about it! One of those things is — icicles typically contain feces. That’s right. Poop.

Don’t eat icicles! Please respect the fact that I edited out the original woman in the video (I have her permission) #IciclePoop

Katie Nickolaou is the meteorologist from Sioux Falls, who shows someone crunching on an icicle while giving the warning that we should not do it.

When icicles form, it’s from water that melts off your roof and runs down the side of a building,” said Nickolaou. “You know what else is on your roof? Bird poop. A lot of it.

Most icicles form on the edge of locations where there is runoff and they often pick up fecal matter in the process. Those frozen pieces of joy we see hanging on our ledges may be beautiful, but they are unsavory when you consider what is on the inside.

But with that said…plenty of people eat icicles with no side effects. I have certainly ate my fair share growing up — now I must go vomit.
