Andi Davis was hiking along an isolated mountain trail in the Phoenix Mountain Reserves when she spotted an injured pit bull lying on the rocks with what looked like broken legs. At first, she thought the animal was dead.

After further inspection she realized it was alive but badly hurt, she then gave the pup some of her water and then proceeded to lift his 50-pound body up and into her arms. Andi carried this injured pit bull a half mile down the trail where she then summons for help.

Medical staff at the local humane society was shocked to discover the dog didn’t have broken legs — he had been shot and was suffering from the bullet wounds lodged inside his neck.

After naming him Elijah, Andi took him home and made Elijah a permanent part of her family. Elijah is now happy and healthy, living out his life with his three other siblings.
