Lennon, who was a strong advocate of peace and even expressed his protest against the Vietnam war in a “bed-in” protest after his wedding to Yoko Ono, was gunned down on the night of December 8, 1980 by Mark David Chapman, who later admitted to killing the former Beatle to “make a statement.”
