A group of Iranian college students who belonged to the Muslim Student Followers of the Imam’s Line stormed the U.S. Embassy in Tehran and held 52 Americans hostage in November 4, 1979, demanding the return of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi to Iran for trial and execution. Shown in the photo are the hostages as they were led out to the plane that would fly them out of Tehran, after negotiations securing their release came through, ending 444 days of cruelty and terror.
