Acne is one of the skin conditions that can be devastating, especially if it is severe. There are different types of acne with distinct symptoms. They include whiteheads, blackheads, pustules, papules, cysts, etc.  A lot of people usually wonder why their faces keep breaking out.

The answer to this question lies in your habits and daily routine. Even though acne can be caused by genetics, you can still alleviate the problem by addressing issues such as diet, stress, and sleep. If your face continuous breaks out, these could be the reasons behind it.

1. You Don’t Get Enough Sleep

One of the best ways you can reward yourself is to have adequate sleep. You should sleep for seven or eight hours. Sleep is like a reset button for your entire body because during sleep all your systems relax and the cells regenerate. Lack of proper sleep has been linked to acne. Resting lowers stress levels, hence preventing the overproduction of cortisol hormone that produces excess sebum.

2. You Are Too Stressed

Stress is among the most causes of acne. That’s because it causes the body to produce excess cortisol that can trigger the overproduction of sebum on the skin. Even though sebum is essential for keeping the skin moist and healthy, if it is too much in the body, it can easily clog the pores.

3. You Are Dehydrated

Dehydration can affect your body’s ability to self regulate. This means that your body may produce excess sebum more than it should, to keep your skin hydrated, and even clog the pores as well. Dehydration can also lead to an accumulation of dead skin cells that may clog a pore.  You should ensure that you drink plenty of water, at least eight glasses a day to stay hydrated because water plays an essential role in all your bodily functions.

4. You’re Having A Poor Diet

If you want to mitigate your breakouts, you should assess your diet. As you wonder what causes acne, you should know that the foods you eat can also cause acne. Your skin may be reacting negatively to certain foods, such as carbs or dairy.

Highly packed or processed carbs and sugar can increase glucose levels in your blood, hence increasing testosterone levels in the blood. Hyperactive hormones can harm your skin, so try and cut down on sugar, processed foods, and refined grains, such as desserts, bread, cereal, pasta, snacks, white flour, etc.

5. You are over-cleansing

If you over wash your face, then you can worsen the acne. Overwashing your face can make it overly dry. This can result in the accumulation of dead skin, hence triggering overproduction of sebum. According to dermatologists, you should wash your face twice a day, but if you must wash it more than this, you should use a gentle cleanser that won’t deprive your skin of its necessary moisture levels.

6. You May Be Using Comedogenic Skincare Products

Dermatologists recommend using non-comedogenic skincare products on your skin.  Coconut oil is one of the examples of non-comedogenic products. It may help your pores. When purchasing your skincare products, buy products that are written “non-comedogenic.”   If the product is certified as such, they will gladly indicate it.
