Apparently, those who took music lessons when they were young, and actually became good at it, are more likely to be smarter than those who didn’t. Studies suggest that playing musical instruments make you smarter, as it changes the brain’s shape, improving one’s cognitive skills, and even increase IQ. In a different research, kids who have taken music lessons, even for just a month, were able to improve their verbal intelligence. Smarts that are already there are further enhanced by studying music, which hints that having a high IQ is one of the main reasons why music lessons were taken. Evolving into a musical genius is another matter, of course, as it involves actual music ability and tons of practice.
