Puerto Rico-born Mike Lowell is a retired Major League Baseball third baseman and holder of three World Series rings with three different teams: the New York Yankees, Florida Marlins, and the Boston Red Sox. He is also a four-time All-Star, World Series MVP, Gold Glove, and Silver Slugger awardee through his 13-year career. He met his future wife, Bertica Lopez, when they were studying at Coral Gables Senior High School in Florida, where he was a star baseball player and Bertica a member of the Gablettes dance team. The two now share two children after marrying in 1998. Mike published his autobiography, Deep Drive: A Long Journey to Finding the Champion Within, in 2008 which details his life experiences, including being diagnosed and undergoing treatment for testicular cancer in 1999, just after joining the Florida Marlins.
