VIDEO | Did You Know Some Fish Live Buried In The Dry Dirt? This Is How People Catch Them!

I guess you learn something new everyday…but this is just wild! I had no clue about these fish and am rather blown away by the video below. 

In this video from Ghana, Africa we see locals catching fish under the dry dirt. West African lungfish can live for up to 3 1/2 years without any food intake whatsoever. During this time period it behaves much like an estivating fish in that it buries itself in the mud and does not move until more favorable conditions occur.

The fish even adapt and grow a small pair of legs. When the fish are brought out of the ground…they are encased in a cocoon type casing. 

Locals smoke the fish and they place it in soups…however…locals do say the fish taste like mud.
