Non-stick Pots and Pans

Epicurious

The convenience alone of a non-stick cookware brings consumers to a shopping frenzy. After all, it is all about ease in prepping, cooking, and washing, right? Non-stick cookware, such as frypans and saucepans, has been coated with a material called polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), which is commonly known as Teflon. However, although Teflon is generally a safe and stable compound, at temperatures above 500 degrees Fahrenheit, its coating on non-stick cookware begins to breakdown. When this occurs, it releases toxic chemicals into the air. Likewise, inhaling these fumes may lead to polymer fume fever which is also known as Teflon flu. Now, when choosing cookware, do you consider convenience or safety? You decide.
