When deciding to buy those home gym equipment, it is always a good idea to plan it well and check on safety. Go all out or go bust! According to Carrie Jaworski, MD, a family and sports medicine specialist with Northshore University HealthSystems, “We always tell people to check resistance bands used in exercise and physical therapy for little tears because they can snap, and you’re using them near your face, they can hit the eyes and be dangerous for your vision,” she explains. She added, “If your door doesn’t have a strong frame, and you’re a larger person, you want to make sure the frame can support your frame.” Suffice to say, it is important that you properly anchor the band to a stable surface or suffer injury. Moreover, home exercise equipment is especially hazardous for curious children who see the machines as interesting things to play with.
