Divorce is a can be a messy process. It’s something that more and more people go through every year, but that doesn’t make it any easier. The process can make people do and say some pretty nasty things. However, nobody would do something as crazy as what Sue Ann Arnall, the former wife of oil billionaire Harold Hamm, just did.

This week, the New York Post reported that, Arnall allegedly rejected a divorce payment of $975 million from her ex-husband. Instead she plans to appeal for an even bigger settlement.

If that sounds unbelievable, just wait. Somehow the Post managed to get a copy of the check with Hamm’s personal info blanked out. That’s insane! Look at all those numbers.

The check was for a nearly $1 billion settlement that Ham was ordered to pay Arnall in a court ruling from November. Both are now appealing the ruling, but for different reasons. Hamm called the ruling “erroneous and inequitable.”

The official reason that Arnall and her lawyer gave for rejecting the huge payout was because they “did not want to risk the dismissal of her appeal by acceptance of the benefits.”

This could get ugly, and very costly for Hamm. Hamm is the CEO of the oil company Continental Resources. His fortune is estimated to be $13.5 billion, and he is the 35th richest person in America today.

I really don’t know who in their right mind would turn down all that money. The settlement that Arnall rejected also included a ranch in California, and a home in Oklahoma, both worth tens of millions. I wonder how much Hamm is going to lose after all is said and done with his divorce.
