A snowboarder can thank his inflatable backpack for saving him during an avalanche in Whistler, British Columbia on Wednesday.
Tom Oye posted helmet-cam video of the terrifying incident in the Brandywine area on Facebook, where it has been viewed millions of times.
Inflatable backpacks are becoming incredibly common in the snowboarding and skiing community. With a quick push of a button or pull of a cord, the backpack inflates and will allow you to ‘float’ on the top of the avalanche, opposed to be pulled under the heavy snow pack.
In the video you can hear Tom’s inflatable backpack blowing up and maintaining its pressure.
So scary!
