Opossums are not only quite cute, they can be quite beneficial to have around the yard. Oftentimes Opossums are considered annoying as they may get into garbage cans or gardens, but they are not annoying at all.
Opossums are not aggressive. They may hiss quite loudly when they are not happy, but this is nothing more than bluff to look tough and vicious. If that doesn’t work, they will simply play dead in an attempt to get a predator to move along.
Opossums can be quite beneficial by keeping a garden clean, they will eat snails, slugs and other bothersome insects. They will even take care of small, annoying rodents too. If fruit has fallen from a tree, they will clean that up too.
They will also eat ticks, so if you are in an area where there are a lot of ticks, having a Opossum around is a great thing! If you see a Opossum on your property, just let it be. It will move along and not hang around for too long.
