People tend to associate whiteboards with schools or offices; this is not exactly surprising, given that it is in these places that we see whiteboards most often. Hence, whiteboards have come to symbolise work and learning, two things that you usually want to leave outside your home. However, whiteboards can be useful in the home, even for matters not related to work.

One of the advantages a whiteboard has is its reusability. Compared to using numerous sheets of paper or sticky notes, using a whiteboard generates very little waste, thus making it a more sustainable option. Because of its size, it can also be a communal good that one whole family can share; this allows you to maximise the use of your whiteboard and enable more people to benefit from its functionality.

Here are some of the best things that having a whiteboard in your home can do for you:

Never forget anything again

Much like in the office, whiteboards can be used to serve notices or reminders, whether for yourself or your entire household. For families, it is a common practice to place a whiteboard in the kitchen that details the list of chores and reminders for each family member, so that nobody forgets their responsibilities for the day.

You can also use a whiteboard to help you organise your daily activities. You can place a checklist or a calendar on one to check what you have to do for the week or month to see what you have accomplished. Being able to visualise your goals and objectives every day can help motivate you to remember what you have to do and to keep working hard.

Bring your thoughts out

Everyone has moments when they feel overwhelmed, either by their own emotions or by the sheer amount of work that needs to be done. In these times, it can be hard to find the motivation to keep on going or to process exactly how you are feeling and what to do about it.

One of the most helpful ways to deal with moments like these is to let out the thoughts and emotions that you have bottled up inside. Specifically, you can use a whiteboard as a freedom wall to write down anything that you may be thinking or feeling, in whatever way you can. Once you have done so, you will feel relief, as if a great weight has been taken off your shoulders. At the same time, you can also place motivational quotes on the whiteboard specifically for times like these. By doing so, you can be encouraged by the knowledge that you do have what it takes to get through whatever difficulties you are going through.

Spice up movie night

One of the more fun and creative ways to make use of a whiteboard is to turn it into a projection screen; this is especially helpful if you do not have white walls – or a large flat-screen television – in your home. Instead of watching a movie on a small computer screen, treat yourself to the cinematic experience by projecting it onto a whiteboard. Doing so also makes it easier to have movie time as a family; this way, you do not have to crowd around a small screen, for everyone to enjoy the movie as if you were actually in the cinema – right in the comforts of your home.
