The world’s youngest country is also one of the most dangerous, marred by violence and civil war, and a severely weakened economy.  The security situation is not helped by the easy-to-access weapons taken advantage of by men who arm themselves and resort to criminality due to lack of jobs.  Extortion and kidnapping are common, and along with the poor infrastructure and road conditions, has made it extremely difficult and dangerous for humanitarian aid workers.  It is reported that an estimated 3.7 million have fled their homes due to the conflict, and over 7 million, or two-thirds of the population are experiencing hunger.
