Tip One: Bleach<\/h1>\n

- A bleach bath:<\/u><\/b>\u00a0 Give freshly carved pumpkins a bath in bleach water. \u00a0You will want to use one teaspoon of bleach per gallon of water. \u00a0Soak the pumpkins for 4-6 hours, occasionally pouring some of the water over the pumpkins and turning them<\/li>\n
- Bleach spray:<\/u><\/b> If you do not feel like soaking your\u00a0pumpkins\u00a0in bleach you can spritz them daily with a bleach\u00a0spray solution. \u00a0Just make sure that you spray \u00a0the inside as well as all carved parts daily. \u00a0I recommend spritzing the pumpkins from time to time even if they are soaked in bleach.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Why Bleach works:<\/u><\/b> \u00a0the water helps hydrate the pumpkins which prevents rotting. \u00a0The bleach helps kill any bacteria and get rid of any dirt which prevents molding and further helps to keep the pumpkins from rotting.<\/p>\n
\nTip Two: \u00a0Vaseline<\/b><\/h1>\n
\nApplying\u00a0Vaseline\u00a0to the carved parts of a pumpkin\u00a0prevents both dehydration and mold growth, making the pumpkins last weeks longer! \u00a0Simply rub Vaseline over the carved parts of the pumpkin as well as the inside. \u00a0You may want to use a glove to do this. \u00a0It might be a little messy, but it works great!<\/p>\n

If you happen to have WD-40 on hand you can use it to preserve your carved pumpkins. \u00a0Why does this work?
