The issue with that? The photographer claimed that the couple knew about the fee all along, and now they&#8217;re paying dearly for it. They did an interview with local news station KXAS-TV\u00a0on January 15, right in the heart of Polito\u2019s booking season, to talk about how she was\u00a0\u201cholding their photos hostage.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b>Polito, who had been been running her business for 13 years, was not impressed and completely devastated.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-42149 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/awesomejelly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/review.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"634\" height=\"310\" srcset=\"https:\/\/awesomejelly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/review.jpg 634w, https:\/\/awesomejelly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/review-300x147.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 634px) 100vw, 634px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Belle Boudoir by Andrea Polito was nearly destroyed overnight, as bad reviews came pouring in, mostly from people who had heard about the story expressing their outrage on the couples behalf. Many folks creating reviews were only hearing one side of the story.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\"><strong>\u201cI was proud of my accomplishments, what I have done. They took that away from me,\u201d said Polito. \u201cAll the name calling, all the bullying\u2026 I was humiliated.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>After not booking a wedding in nearly two years because of it, Polito was forced to close her business.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>So, what is a business owner to do when their business is taken down because of a couple of bullies? Well, you sue them. And that&#8217;s exactly what Polito did.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-42151 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/awesomejelly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/couple-9-685x514.jpg\" alt=\"expensive wedding\" width=\"685\" height=\"514\" srcset=\"https:\/\/awesomejelly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/couple-9-685x514.jpg 685w, https:\/\/awesomejelly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/couple-9-685x514-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 685px) 100vw, 685px\" \/> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Polito slapped them with a defamation lawsuit\u00a0and won.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>After a jury found them guilty of defamation and malicious statements, the Maldovans were ruled liable for $1.08M in damages.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cNo one is saying you can\u2019t go and write a review,\u201d Polito\u2019s attorney\u00a0Dave Wishnew said. \u201cFreedom of speech is not freedom from consequence. Things you put on the Internet to attack a business have real-world consequences and that really resonated with the jury. We did what consumer advocates say to do: When you are wronged, you fight back.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>We were unhappy with a situation, so we complained like anyone would. This court decision tells consumers not to speak up for fear of fat legal bills and painful judgments.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>If this is the cost of standing up for what\u2019s right, we should have given in to start with. But we hope to prevail in the end.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>We\u2019d love nothing more than to put this behind us and focus on raising our 5-month-old child.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>The moral of the story&#8230;it&#8217;s probably best to just keep the media and social media out of your problems.
