Pet groomer lists 10 reasons why they charge more than a hairdresser.

We love our pets, and naturally want the best for them. But to some, pet grooming is just an extra expense not necessarily needed. But if you think about it, pet grooming is needed, and best left to the experts who are trained to not only groom your pet, but care for them in ways you may not realize. So it’s no wonder this groomer decided to reply to questions about her services costing more than a hairdresser with this funny poster that says it all.

1. The likelihood of you pooping on your hairdresser is slim. Aha! Strike one for the groomer. Even as some pets are potty trained, certain situations may affect the animal’s behavior, fear or anxiety, excitement, even happiness, which hopefully won’t affect you at the hairdresser. But you can always excuse yourself if needed.

2. You don’t bite or scratch your hairdresser. Pet groomers may experience these problems, it’s part of the job after all. So what’s a little extra cost to cover this ‘hazard’. Much cheaper than a lawsuit.

3. Your hairdresser only washes and cuts the hair on your head. Pet groomers do not have the luxury of just washing and cutting hair on the head of their customers like hairdressers do. They have to deal with growths all over your pets’ body, including places you wouldn’t want to do, to your pet, that is.

4. Your haircut doesn’t include a manicure or pedicure. We have nail spas for our manicure or pedicure needs, but there are no real nail spas for pets, the groomer gets to do it all.

5. You sit still for your hairdresser. Be it due to vanity, discipline, or fear of getting hurt, we normally sit still as the hairdresser works. Our pets have no such restraints. Ever watch your groomer work? Getting your pet to sit still is almost impossible, and yet they manage to do the work just the same.

6. Your hairdresser doesn’t remove the boogers from your eyes. Part and parcel of the grooming job of pet groomers, as some dogs have overactive tear ducts that cause mucus to build up and can be harmful to your pet if not removed. Your hairdresser wouldn’t give a care if you had that problem.

7. Your hairdresser doesn’t clean your ears. For us this is part of personal hygiene, or at least it should be, our pets need help with this obviously. And it is not easy, pet groomers are trained for this soas not to injure your pet.

8. Your hairdresser doesn’t give you a sanitary trim. Your pubic areas are your problem, again, part of personal hygiene. Pet groomers groom the whole body of your pet.

9. You don’t go 8 weeks without washing or brushing our hair. We normally wash or brush our hair regularly to keep it clean, smelling good, and tangle free. Cats do a good job themselves as well, but dogs can be a mess. It can take a while to do the job for a dirty, messy dog.

10. Your hairdresser doesn’t wash and clean your rear end. Your haircut may come with a shampoo, blow-dry, and sometimes a scalp massage, depending on the package you choose, and if your hairdresser likes you. For pet groomers, a full-body shampoo, trim and butt clean are part of the job. I guess you can say your pets are more taken care of than you are, or ever will be.

So don’t underestimate the pet groomers’ work. It is definitely not for everybody, it takes a certain patience and dedication, as well as love for pets to do the job. At least this pet groomer has a sense of humour as well. Surely worth every penny.
