Nature is an awesome thing. Even in its most organic form, nature doesn’t realize just how earth-shattering and incredible it can be in its purest form of existence. While we attempt to understand Mother Nature in any way possible, sometimes, it’s a thousand times better to just marvel in her inconceivable beauty.

All we can say is hats down to the photographers that have managed to capture some of the most rare and astonishing images that you have probably never seen before.

Pink Grasshopper

""

Source: https://t1.daumcdn.net/

Long gone are the days when crickets were just grassy green in color and named Jiminy, if you’re Walt Disney of course. Although these pink grasshoppers are nothing but common, they have been around for quite some time given that their color comes from a genetic mutation described as a varying version of albinism. And while this makes it much harder for them to be camouflaged, it does make it much easier for us to find them for photos.

In The Eye Of The Tornado

""

Source: http://cdn.hasshe.com/

There are storm chasers and then there are people that have seemingly no regard for their safety whatsoever. While Audra Thomas of Beaver City, Nebraska willingly stood in place, hair whipping all over, just to get a shot with the humongous tornado raging in the background, these days, photos like this will just get you backlash for being majorly foolish. Lucky for this girl, rather than get into trouble with her mom for this shot, she actually thanked her for being the one to take it.

Riding Out The Storm

""

Source: https://www.iliketowastemytime.com/

When nature decides to conjure a storm too powerful for any human to control, people are left at her mercy with only the prayer of hope that they will survive whatever she has in store for them. This particular photograph was taken in 1989 by Jean Guichard, showing massive waves as they hit the Phares dans la Tempete, a lighthouse in France located near the town of Brittany. The lighthouse keeper, Theodore Malgome, looks quite calm while facing what looks like a monster squall, but he was, in fact, waiting to be rescued. Thankfully, both he and the lighthouse survived unscathed and amazingly, intact.

Is That A Panda Dog?

""

Source: https://imgix.ranker.com/

Everyone knows that pandas originated from China, but did you know that they also now have dogs that look like pandas? With dog breeds becoming more and more complicated like the designer bred Labradoodles, Goldendoodles, Schnoodles and Yorkipoos, why not add Pandadogs to the mix too?

Escaping Slaughter

""

Source: https://metro.co.uk/

Pigs are often said to be highly intelligent creatures, and from this photo alone it would seem that this statement is correct. And this snapshot of our pink piggy friend going for broke – attempting to gain his freedom from slaughter by jumping out of the pig-filled truck albeit possibly dying anyway from the fall – is really all the proof we need.

Krys, The 28-Foot Crocodile

""

Source: https://kryscrocodile1957.files.wordpress.com/

Crocodiles have been around for 200 million years, and alongside sharks, their existence has made them the ultimate predators. There are a hundred reasons why people fear crocs, yet their teeth alone are reason enough. Although over a million years ago, they would grow up to 40-feet, the biggest ever recorded in more modern times was a humongous 28-foot crocodile named Krys. He was found and killed by female croc hunter, Krystina Pawlowski, back in 1958. If you ever questioned just how big crocs could get, this photo says it all.

The Beauty Of Lenticular Clouds

""

Source: https://s4.scoopwhoop.com/

Otherwise known as Altocumulus Lenticularis clouds, lenticular clouds are often mistaken as UFOs by those that aren’t aware of their existence. Of course, unless you study actual cloud formations, then seeing something as improbable as these white fluffy masses is going to make you think twice. But perhaps what makes them even more special is that these types of cloud formations are no easy feat to form, requiring the troposphere and the wind direction to be in perpendicular directions, creating these amazing swirls in the sky.

An Underwater Bench

""

Source: https://steemitimages.com/

Although it would seem incredibly strange to chance upon a park bench while scuba diving, the Green Lake in Austria is anything but normal. Of course, nature is completely to blame here since the winter months has lake frozen over, leaving benches, grass, trees and walkways above water. But come summer, the ice melts away, raising the lake’s water levels leaving everything submerged, making it much more fun for divers to explore.

Skull Crab

""

Source: https://cdn.historydaily.org/

Definitely not something you expect to see, but this hermit crab walking around with a skull as its shell is as good as it gets. Hermit crabs need to search for their shells as they grow, changing homes as often as they see fit. In fact, some even fight another crab to take over the shell they want. Although we have a feeling that no one chose to challenge Skeletor over here.

Meal On Wheels

Being chased by a bear is probably on everyone’s list of ‘Top Scariest Moments of Their Lives,’ but if there was any way to get away from an angry grizzly it’ll probably be a cycling bike. And while this bear was probably just protecting its home, surroundings and possibly, cubs, this cyclist must have been praying that his legs didn’t give out on him as he literally went on the ride of his life.

Abstract Art Or A Flock Of Flamingos

""

Source: https://www.nationalgeographic.com/

At first glance, this incredible image actually looks like a piece of abstract art. But it is actually a photograph taken from a helicopter, as it hovered over the salt lake Natron located in northern Tanzania. But what makes it even more amazing is the fact that what looks like a bunch of pink dots is actually a huge flock of Flamingos flying together above the shoreline. We’ve definitely never seen anything like it, that’s for sure.

A Single Photo

""

Source: https://i.imgur.com/

At first glance, it’s easy to suspect that you are looking two photos instead of one, given the remarkable cleanliness of the line between the water and mountainside. But this amazing coastline road is privy to one of the most breathtaking views, what with the perfectly still waters and the fog sitting right below the white mountain peaks. This is the quintessential photo where earth’s elements of land and water meet, making everyone bask in the beauty that is mother nature.

The Mighty Megalodon

""

Source: https://cdn.historydaily.org/

If there was a gigantic prehistoric crocodile, there was also the humongous prehistoric shark known as the Megalodon. These days, the biggest shark recorded so far was a 20-foot 8-inch great white nicknamed Deep Blue, but back when dinosaurs were still alive, the Megalodon was said to be at least 60-feet long, four times the ones still swimming in our oceans now, as demonstrated in the photo above.

Goats On Trees

""

Source: https://i.chzbgr.com/

No, you are not looking at an optical illusion. Those are, indeed, goats balancing on trees. In Morocco, they grow the Argania tree, which produces nuts that the goats love. And while it might look like they are in incredibly precarious positions, goats are very sure footed animals, so they are actually balancing quite easily. And because goats are herd animals, where one goes, the rest follow, hence the incredible number of goats in the tree as well.

Where’s The Spider?

""

Source: https://images.boredomfiles.com/

An animal’s ability to protect itself and survive in the wild is primitive, and honestly, inspiring. If you haven’t noticed it just yet, there is actually a spider known as the Huntsman, that has the ability to flatten itself and wrap around a tree branch to look invisible to predators. And while this is an incredibly cool thing that this particular spider is able to do, humans everywhere will be searching extra hard to make sure they don’t accidentally touch one of these creepy crawlers by accident.

Hummingbird In Flight

""

Source: https://i.pinimg.com/

Hummingbirds are truly one of the best gifts of nature for a number of reasons. Not only are they astonishingly beautiful tiny birds, but rather than flap their wings, they actually flutter them in a figure 8 like motion, over 80 times in a single second. We need to reiterate that, 80 times in 1 second! This particular hummingbird is known as the sword-billed hummingbird, precisely because its bill is longer than the rest of its body. And when capturing their photograph, it’s almost impossible to get one that isn’t blurry because of how quickly they move. But in one astonishing feat, this photographer was able to capture what many have failed to do.

The Brown Panda

""

Source: http://www.visiontimes.com/

This panda bear looks just like the rest of all other panda bears, except that rather than being white and black, it’s actually white and brown. Sadly for poor Qizai, his coloring caused him issues growing up, enough to be bullied by the other panda bears and eventually, abandoned by his own mother at 2 months of age. Although his coloring is quite an anomaly, humans took him in even though his panda brothers and sisters didn’t want him, and since then, his caregivers have been trying to have him mate with no luck.

The Aftermath Of A Snow Storm

""

Source: https://i.imgur.com/

Snow can be an ominous thing, especially when mixed with bone-rattling temperatures. These crazy icicles formed after high winds blew over this pole, creating sideways structures of ice. But while they are indeed, lovely to look at, they don’t make this technician’s task to remove them before their weight causes too much damage, easy at all.

The Ultimate Catch

""

Source: http://cdn.lifebuzz.com/

The world has evolved, in so many ways, but animals are one tell-tale way of understanding how the world was eventually taken over by humans. This particular photograph shows a 20-foot wide manta ray that sadly got entangled in the anchor line of a boat, eventually killing the enormous animal. But unlike their other ancient seawater counterparts, these bad boys have remained amazingly huge until today.

Lightning Storm Over Lake Michigan

""

Source: https://www.sciencealert.com/

One look at this picture and we bet that everyone is thinking the same thing, “Thank goodness I’m not in the middle of that lighting storm!” This particular photo of Lake Michigan, which is actually a large freshwater sea, proves the strength of mother nature, creating bigger storms because of its large size. And while that may be impressive already, the fact this photographer was able to capture this shot at all, is the most impressive thing of all.

A Storm Is Brewing

""

Source: https://78.media.tumblr.com/

Rather than looking like a bunch of clouds sitting atop a city, this photo looks more like a city nestled in the clouds. That’s what happens when you couple a bunch of storm clouds and a spectacular red sunset, making this Moscow backdrop look like it’s both on fire and already smoking, all at the same time.

Lake Baikal

""

Source: https://www.beautifulworld.com/

What looks like peeping glass windows covered with snow is actually real ice that has been frozen over Lake Baikal. This Russian lake is said to be ‘the oldest, largest, deepest, and clearest freshwater lake in the world,’ and these blocks have been described as “the gem that does not need to be cut.” They form when colder temperatures drop in the wintertime, causing these turquoise colored blocks to push up on the surface, making some of the most pristine and immaculate ice there ever was.

Riding The Ice

""

Source: http://seniorlifeplus.com/

Speaking of ice, Sir Ernest Shackleton decided to take a trip over the Antarctic waters in his attempt to be the first person to reach the South Pole. On a boat he named Endurance, he set off on an expedition that he thought would put his name in the books. Unfortunately, the ice was too much for the ship to handle and was slowly crushed to death back in 1915. Amazingly, Shackleton and crew made it out alive, camping on the ice for a jaw-dropping 497 days until they made it to land via life rafts. He was right about one thing though, he became famous indeed, just not for what he had wanted originally.

Of Pyramids And Galaxies

""

Source: https://urbanfragment.files.wordpress.com/

It’s often said that if you want the best view of the stars, then go where there are no manmade lights so you can see the sky as clear as day. What better place to get the chance to do this than out in Egypt by the ancient pyramids? For this photographer, not only was the sky incredibly clear, he was even able to capture the Milky Way in all of its natural splendor on this clear and balmy night.

Cobra VS Python

""

Source: https://cdn.historydaily.org/

It almost has the feel of a bad ‘B movie’ but this is a genuine test of two snakes doing their worst on each other. This fight was between a King Cobra, a type of snake that uses its venomous bite to kill its prey, and a python, which squeezes its victim until all the blood flow is completely restricted and it dies. Despite hoping that at least one of these snakes would come out the victor, regrettably, they both died painful and slow deaths.

A Purple Polar Bear

""

Source: https://imgix.ranker.com/

Before you start thinking that you will ever see a purple polar bear in the wild, this one only changed color because of medication. This zoo bear named Pelusa was being treated for a skin disease and needed to be medicated, which in turn, turned the whole thing purple. Despite the fact that it wasn’t actually an organic occurrence, nor did the zookeepers know she would turn purple from the treatment, thousands of people still showed up in droves at the Argentine Zoo in Buenos Aires to see her.

Neon Trees

""

Source: https://www.buzzfeed.com/

While one might think that this tree was highly disrespected and vandalized for fun, it actually really looks like that. This Rainbow Eucalyptus Tree found in Kailua, Hawaii has multicolored streaks that run vertically all along its body. The streaking occurs when portions of the trunk shed at different times from the other portions, making this ‘freak of nature’ anything but freakish. In fact, it’s quite mesmerizing to say the least.

Spiderweb Trees

""

Source: https://i.pinimg.com/

What looks like dust and dirt covered trees are actually trees covered in tons of spiderwebs. The word eerie probably describes it best, making one think that there is some sort of global apocalypse that’s about to happen. Of course the real reason behind them isn’t that much better, considering that these webs were formed when millions of spiders climbed up the trees from the ground in order to escape flood waters. And because these webs were spun by tons of arachnids, it would seem that both they and their webs won’t be going back to barracks anytime soon.

Sand Full Of Stars

""

Source: https://cdn.luxuo.com/

If this photograph doesn’t have you booking your next ticket to the Maldives, then we don’t know what will. Already full of crystal clear waters and some of the most sacred wildlife, this part of Maldives known as the Vaadhoo Islands, even has what looks like a sky of stars on the sandy shores of its beaches. What is otherwise known as bioluminescence, all that sparkly water and sand is what happens due to a natural chemical reaction from phytoplankton, or tiny marine microorganisms, mixing with oxygen in the water. And while this may all be a bunch of scientific mumbo jumbo, all we see is magic.

Is This A Mermaid Sighting?

""

Source: https://cdn.historydaily.org/

One look at this photo and you’ll probably be squinting your eyes in confusion, trying to understand exactly what you are looking at. This picture of a beluga whale taken in Artic waters is exactly the reason why sailors claim that mermaids do exist. This particular whale may look nothing like a captivating siren from the top, but those fins with almost human like knees seen from below tell a whole other story.
