Famous people and celebrities have always had a following, fans, media, and other followers. But even these adored people have limited time on this earth, just like all of us. Life is short, and death is certain. Curiosity gets the best of us when a well known person passes away. How did they die? What was the last thing they did? So forth and so on, last known photos of these popular people may be rare. Some have posed for the last time, some were taken without their knowledge by paparazzi or strangers. Photos may give us ways to remember a person, but some photos may also bring sadness and pity for a person who should be remembered during the good times.<\/h6>\n

Patrick Swayze began his career as a dancer before finding success on Broadway. He truly fit the role in Dirty Dancing, but was also remembered as the lead character in the film Ghost which moved many viewers to tears. Well, many did shed tears upon learning of his death due to pancreatic cancer. And more shed tears when they saw how it affected him, the once good-looking, sexy, hunk of a man deteriorated into a shrivelled and weak pitiful being. Cancer does that to most of its victims. Swayze actually discovered his cancer late, he had stage IV pancreatic cancer just a year before his death. Why it was not diagnosed earlier is a mystery. Well he has moved on to a better place, for those who believe in that. Rest in peace always Mr. Swayze.<\/h6>\n

This American actor and producer is best remembered for his role as Tony Soprano in the hit series The Sopranos. He won 3 Emmy Awards, 3 Screen Actors Guild Awards, and 1 Golden Globe Award. Unfortunately, Gandolfini died from a heart attack while on vacation in Rome, Italy. He was supposed to travel to Sicily a few days later to receive an award at the Taormina Film Fest. Gandolfini was honored by many upon learning of his death. His body was flown back to the US four days after he died, even though the repatriation process takes at least 7 days. The family thanked the Italian and American authorities for speeding up the process. Clearly Gandolfini was a respected man, even in death. His funeral service was held on June 27, 2013, and his cremated ashes were given to his family.<\/h6>\n

Who doesn\u2019t know David Bowie? This English singer- songwriter and actor was a leading figure in the music industry, and was well known all over the world. Few though know that he was born David Robert Jones, and that he was also a painting enthusiast and art collector. Upon his death, his family auctioned off his art collection which fetched a total of $41.5 million. He openly declared himself to be bisexual even during the 1970s which was very brave of him as it was not openly accepted by society. Yet he continued to create hits in the music industry, doing theatre and eventually film without much controversy about his sexuality. On January 10, 2016, 2 days after his 69th birthday and the release of the album Blackstar, Bowie died of liver cancer in his New York apartment. As he wished, his ashes were scattered in a Budhist ceremony in Bali, Indonesia. His final album Blackstar starts with the words \u201cLook up here, I\u2019m in Heaven.\u201d We are sure you are dear sir.<\/h6>\n

Another legendary music personality, Whitney Houston was cited as the most awarded female artist of all time by the Guiness Book of World Records. She is also known to be one of the best selling music artists of all time, with over 200 million records sold worldwide. Tragically, she died after being found unconscious submerged in her bathtub at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Houston was known to be having problems with drugs and alcohol, and looked erratic and disheveled a few days before her death. Accidental drowning with heart disease and cocaine was the cause of death. While Houston led a glamorous life publicly, she also had a troubled, sad life only a few knew about. Still, many refuse to believe the rumors of her secret life as she was adored by lots of people. But the truth hurts, and it hurts to know that the music diva is no longer with us. But she lives on through her music, and will for a long time to come.<\/h6>\n

The beloved Princess Diana died in a car crash in the Pont de l\u2019Alma tunnel in Paris while fleeing the paparazzi. Also killed was companion Dodi Fayed and the driver Henri Paul, only Diana\u2019s bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones managed to survive. The whole world grieved at the untimely death of this loved and adored princess, especially since she was further cast into the limelight after her separation from Prince Charles. Many people around the world mourned the tragic loss of Diana, from royalty to presidents, to celebrities and common folks. People left public offerings such as flowers, candles, cards, and personal messages outside Kensington Palace for many months. Over a billion people watched the funeral on TV in many countries around the globe. It certainly was a sad, but grand affair, that will never be forgotten. She was noted for her shyness, but that did not deter her from finding ways to help people with ailments that needed help and support. Truly a great \u201cfairy tale\u201d type of princess in real life.<\/h6>\n

This was portrayed in his most celebrated film Rebel Without A Cause, in which he starred as a troubled teenager. His untimely death was due to a car crash while driving a Porsche sports car. He was fond of race cars and was interested in developing an auto racing career. According to reports, Dean slammed into a Ford Tudor passing through an intersection, which caused his car to bounce several times across the pavement resulting in fatal injuries. His passenger, the mechanic who convinced him to test drive the car from Los Angeles to Salinas, was thrown from the car. There is a saying that \u201conly the good die young,\u201d whether it applies to James Dean is not really relevant. He surely may have been controversial but was adored by many teenagers across the nation.<\/h6>\n

It put Jamaica in the elite group of the music world. In 1977, Marley was diagnosed with acral lentiginous melanoma, and sadly died as a result of the illness in 1981. Marley converted from Catholicism to Rastafari, whose culture was a key element in the development of reggae. He survived a politically motivated assasinnation attempt when armed men broke into his house. Also wounded were his wife, and manager don Taylor. This was 2 days before the free concert Smile Jamaica, organized by the Jamaican Prime Minister. Well, the concert proceeded, and an injured Marley performed as scheduled. Marley did not only conquer Jamaica with his music, he conquered at least half of the world. Keep on jammin\u2019.<\/h6>\n

One of the most versatile and accomplished actors and comedians of recent times, Robin Williams was a master of the game. Williams has brought the art of comedy to greater heights, and made millions laugh, but sadly, he was not laughing along inside. Robin Williams committed suicide in his Paradise Cay, California home on August 11, 2014. He was last seen mingling with guests at a party in his home the night before. His wife attributed his suicide to his struggle with Lewy body dementia, a little known brain disease that affects more than a million Americans. It damages brain cells that lead to memory loss, delusions, and hallucinations. The comedian started doing stand-up comedy during the 1970s. His unique humour using different tools to stimulate, surprise, and astound audiences set him up for a starring role in the TV series Mork and Mindy, playing Mork, an alien that was sent to earth. He won his first Golden Globe Award for the show in 1978 for Best Actor in a Television Series Musical or Comedy.The rest is history, as they say. Truly he will be missed for a long time to come.<\/h6>\n

While he was a child actor in the 70s and 80s, he gained recognition in the early 1990s after appearing in the TV soap opera, The Young and the Restless. He soon transitioned into film, and did several films prior to his claim to superstardom in the hit franchise The Fast and the Furious. But on November 30, 2013, Walker and Roger Rodas left an event for Walker\u2019s charity, Reach Out Worldwide, for victims of typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda in the Philippines). Rodas was driving his Porsche Carrera GT, and crashed into a concrete lamp post and two trees and burst into flames. Both died from multiple trauma and burns, their bodies were burned beyond recognition. It was an unfortunate loss of a talented actor, and a great human being.<\/h6>\n

Tupac Shakur was an american rapper and actor that many considered the greatest rapper of all time. Sadly, he was assassinated in a drive-by shooting, due to a feud between the East Coast and West Coast rappers. Gangsta rap was literally a dangerous profession during that time. His murder was never solved. Tupac often complained that he was misunderstood. \u201c Everything in life is not all beautiful, \u201c he told journalist Chuck Phillips. Tupac\u2019s early years was by no means ordinary and trouble-free. There were instances of robbery and shootings, and several legal troubles. But nevertheless, he was certainly talented. His double-disc album All Eyez On Me became certified diamond, one of the very few rap albums to achieve this feat. His death sparked outrage, and there were those who criticized rap music as being evil and run by gangsters. While there may have been some truths to this accusations, music is never evil in itself. Tupac\u2019s life and death cannot be blamed on the music genre he was immersed in. He chose his way of life, and lived it as he wanted.<\/h6>\n

This australian actor did several roles in Australian television and film productions in the 1990s, before packing up and moving the US in 1998 to further develop his career. It obviously was a good move for the young actor, he made 19 films since 1999, and even produced and directed music videos. It seemed he was at the prime of his life. But a few months after he finished filming The Dark Knight as the Joker, and in the midst of filming The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, he overdosed on pain-killers and the combined effects of several other medications. Fans were shocked and actually confused about the actor\u2019s death. But many still paid tribute by leaving flowers and other memorial tributes outside his apartment building. Multitudes of fans all over the world expressed their grief, including the Australian Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd. His role as the Joker in The Dark Knight won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture in 2009. The award was accepted by the director Christopher Nolan on his behalf. That may have been the greatest tribute to an actor of his caliber, he will be missed.<\/h6>\n

She was known for her deep, expressive contralto vocals, and her eclectic mix of musical genres, particularly soul, jazz, and R & B. She was very successful at her young age, and was idolized by many aspiring female singers starting out. However, her success was plagued by drug and alcohol addiction. She succumbed to alcohol poisoning on July 23, 2011, at the young age of 27. Many fans mourned her death, even though she was a troubled person. But the controversy continued even after her death. The documentary Amy by director Asif Kapadia about the life and death of amy Winehouse stirred a lot of emotions. \u201cI was angry and I wanted the audience to be angry,\u201d kapadia said. He never met the singer, and never saw her perform live, he claims to have had just a basic knowledge of her story. Well there will always be pros and cons to any controversial issue, but no one can doubt the talent surely will not be forgotten. Rest in peace, Amy.<\/h6>\n

Rock legend and lead vocalist of Queen , Freddie Mercury is well known around the world. But what is not well known is his real name, he was born Farrokh Bulsara, and was born in Zanzibar, Tanzania. But, this British singer, songwriter, and record producer is considered as one of the greatest lead singers in the history of rock music. With his popular band Queen, Mercury recorded numerous hit songs like Bohemian Rhapsody, We are the Champions, and Crazy Little Thing Called Love, to name a few. Sadly in 1991, Mercury died of bronchial pneumonia due to AIDS. Mercury\u2019s close friend Dave Clark of The Dave Clark Five was at the bedside vigil in Mercury\u2019s home when he passed away. The impact of Freddie Mercury\u2019s death is evident as the band\u2019s album sales went up dramatically a year after his death. There have been several types of tribute given to the singer. In 1997, the 3 remaining band members of Queen released the song \u201cNo One but You (Only The Good Die Young)\u201d, dedicated to Mercury and all those that die too soon. Google dedicated their Google Doodle to Mercury on his 65th birthday in 2011, Several monuments, statues, performances were done in his memory. He will be remembered for decades to come.<\/h6>\n

Born Cassius Clay, Ali was known as one of the greatest boxers of all time (the greatest according to him). He started boxing at the young age of 12. At 18, he won the gold medal in the light heavyweight division of the 1960 Summer Olympics. He turned professional a year later, and converted to Islam after 1961 and took the name Muhammad Ali. In 1964, he took the heavyweight belt from Sonny Liston in a shocking upset. The rest is history. But sadly, the legendary boxer passed away on June 3, 2016, at the age of 74. His death was the number one trending topic on Twitter for over 12 hours, and on Facebook for several days. Numerous news networks featured the boxer for several hours as part of the tribute given to the legend. He was mourned all over the world, and as a family spokesman said the family \u201c certainly believes that Muhammad Ali was a citizen of the world and they know that the world grieves with him.\u201d<\/h6>\n

Steve Jobs is remembered as the co-founder of Apple, Inc., and was its chairman and CEO for some time. He was also the chairman and majority shareholder of Pixar, a member of The Walt Disney Company\u2019s board of directors following their acquisition of Pixar, and held several other high positions in other companies.The successful businessman kept improving his net worth by continuously revolutionizing the tech industry. But his health did not improve, he was diagnosed with cancer in 2003. In mid-2004, he announced to his employees that he had a cancerous tumor in his pancreas. He resisted the doctor\u2019s recommendations for medical intervention and relied on alternative medicine instead. It seemed his decision may have led to an earlier death, but that is not certain. Eventually, as his health was deteriorating, he resigned as Apple\u2019s CEO and named Tim Cook as his successor, on August 24, 2011. Jobs died on October 5, 2011, in his home in Palo Alto, California. Apple and Pixar made announcements regarding his death. Respects via statements were given by Jobs\u2019 co-founder of Apple, Steve Wozniak, President Obama, George Lucas, Bill Gates, and other respected people in their fields. Steve Jobs helped revolutionize the world we live in, he will always be remembered.<\/h6>\n

This founding member of the Beatles was extremely popular during the 60s and 70s as part of the legendary \u201cFab Four\u201d, but even afterwards had a memorable solo career. He was a free-spirited individual and activist, and led a somewhat unconventional lifestyle with his wife, Yoko Ono. Though some found him to be eccentric and controversial, majority of the people respected and adored him not only as a musician, but as a person. Sadly, one deranged mind decided to end his life. Lennon was shot and killed by Mark David Chapman, who asked Lennon for his autograph several hours prior to murdering him. Chapman was incensed about lifestyle and public statements, particularly the much publicized remark about the Beatles being \u201cmore popular than Jesus.\u201d Chapman was arrested and pleaded guity to Lennon\u2019s murder, who was shot 5 times, 4 of which hit him in the back. A worldwide mourning and several weeks of grief followed Lennon\u2019s murder. Truly a great loss not only for the music world, but for humanity in general.<\/h6>\n

This larger than life funnyman suffered a heart attack while filming Wagons East!, in Mexico. He has entertained us with several funny characters in major film productions such as Stripes, Cool Runnings, Spaceballs, and Uncle Buck, to name a few. His two final films, Canadian Bacon and Wagons East!, are dedicated to his memory. Even though Candy struggled with weight-related health issues, and was a heavy smoker and drinker, friends and family were still shocked by his sudden passing at the age of 43. Wagons East was completed using a stunt double and special effects, and was released 5 months after Candy\u2019s death. Candy was inducted into Canada\u2019s Walk of Fame in 1998, and in 2006 was featured on a postage stamp by Canada Post. There were several other tributes and honors given to the late actor, and not only in Canada, where he was born. John Candy may have left us too soon, but his legacy will continue on, thanks Mr. Candy for the laughter.<\/h6>\n

Prince Rogers Nelson was an American singer, songwriter, musician, dancer, record producer, actor, and filmmaker. Considered by many as one of the greatest musicians of his era. He sold over 130 million records worldwide, and has created several hits. He wrote his first song \u201cFunk Machine\u201d when he was just 7 years old, proof of his musical genius. But unfortunately, his time with us was limited. It seemed a sudden illness on the dawn of 2016 plagued Prince. He had to postpone several performances due to his deteriorating health. He rescheduled and performed his final performance on April 14, even though it was obvious he was not well. The next morning, while flying back to Minneapolis, he became unresponsive and his private jet made an emergency landing in Moline Illinois. He was hospitalized and received Narcan, a medicine used to block the effects of opioids, especially after an overdose. He left against medical advice upon regaining consciousness. On April 20. Howard Kornfeld, a specialist in addiction medicine was called to provide Prince with medical help. He was scheduled to meet with Prince on April 22, but unfortunately, Prince was found dead at his home in Paisley park. It was ruled as an \u201caccidental\u201d opioid overdose.<\/h6>\n

Considered by many as the greatest rock guitarist of all time, though there are several others that are qualified for the honor. He began playing the guitar at the age of 15, and started playing in small gigs and backup bands. Moving to England in 1966 was a game changer for the rock star. It was a turning point that helped create the legend. But as all good things come to an end, Hendrix eventually died in London from a barbiturate-related asphyxia. There was a dispute regarding his death, but the post-mortem showed he suffocated on his own vomit due to intoxication with barbiturates. Hendrix\u2019s body was embalmed and flown to Seattle on September 29, 1970. Family and friends travelled to his funeral in 24 limousines and about 200 people attended the funeral. However thousands in the US and UK joined in the mourning, including other well known musicians, politicians, and fans. He left a lasting legacy as the greatest instrumentalist in the history of rock music.<\/h6>\n

Harrison was known as the \u201csilent Beatle\u201d, and was the lead guitarist of the Fab Four. Although most of their hits were composed by Lennon and McCartney, Harrison also contributed with compositions such as Taxman, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, and Here Comes the Sun, to name a few. After the Beatles disbanded, he released several best selling singles and albums as a solo performer. He survived a knife attack by an intruder at his home 2 years before his death. His remains were cremated, and the ashes scattered according to Hindu tradition in a private ceremony in the Ganges and Yamuna rivers in India. He left and estate over 100 million pounds.<\/h6>\n

A former actor who entered politics and became the 33rd Governor of California, and eventually the 40th President of the United States. Reagan was raised in a low income family in small towns of northern Illinois, and decided to pursue acting as a career when he moved to California. The lure of Hollywood does create a spell over many. Well, unfortunately he did not make the big time in showbiz, and moved on to politics. Fortunately, here he struck gold. As President of the most powerful free nation on the planet, Reagan implemented sweeping political and economic initiatives. \u201cReaganomics\u201d advocated tax rate reduction to spur economic growth, economic deregulation, and reduction in government spending. The other memorable thrust was his War on Drugs campaign, though it was not really successful. Still, when he left office in 1989, he had an approval rating of 68%, matching that of FDR, and later, Bill Clinton. The former actor and president lived a full life, and passed away at a ripe old age of 93 due to pneumonia, complicated by Alzheimer\u2019s disease.<\/h6>\n

Kennedy\u2019s death brought an ocean of tears. He was loved and admired not only in the US, but all across the globe. Not many world leaders have ever been so praised and mourned. He was an American Christian minister and activist who became the most visible spokesperson and champion of the Civil Rights Movement from 1955 until his assassination in 1968. King led the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott which was a political and social protest campaign against the policy of racial segregation on the public transit system in Montgomery, Alabama. Aside from other protest movements, his famous \u201cI Have a Dream\u201d speech was on the 1963 March on Washington. In 1964, he won the Nobel Peace Prize for combating racial inequality through nonviolent resistance. His death in 1968 sparked many riots in US cities. Many allegations surfaced that the man convicted of killing King, James Earl Ray, had been framed, or acted in concert with government agents. This continued for decades after the shooting. Ray died in prison in 1998 from hepatitis. The legacy of King remains with us today, as he is immortalized in the hearts of many Americans, as well as other nationalities who understand the struggle against racism, and the notion of civil rights.
